Jack Stevenson

John R. Stevenson, DJD holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Duquesne University, a License d’Enseignment (M.M.Ed.) with the Premiere Prix en Pedagogy and the Diplôme Jaques-Dalcroze (D.M.A.Ed.) from the Institut Jaques-Dalcroze, Geneva, Switzerland.

John has taught Dalcroze Studies on the faculty of Laval University in Quebec City, and at Ithaca College, where he was a tenured Associate Professor. During his 12 years at Ithaca, he founded the Division of Jaques-Dalcroze Education in the graduate school of music, as well as the Ensemble Jaques-Dalcroze Plastique Animeé. Ithaca College honored him as the Dana Teaching Fellow for his "outstanding contributions to the classroom." John left Ithaca to serve on the music faculty and chair the Performing Arts Department at The Spence School in New York City. During his 8-year tenure at Spence, John was honored with the Zuckerman Foundation Award for teaching excellence.

In 1995, while still at Spence, John founded The Bethlehem Music Settlement in Bethlehem, PA, an independent teaching institute offering private and group piano, musicianship and Eurhythmics instruction to students of all ages. John currently works full-time as the Director of BMS.

John has served as guest faculty in music education, piano improvisation, ear-training and choreography at many leading colleges and universities including: Institut Jaques-Dalcroze, Geneva, Switzerland, Oberlin Conservatory of Music, The Royal Conservatory of Toronto,Carnegie-Mellon University and Bien Music Conservatory, Bien, Switzerland. John has authored several articles and co-authored the text Rhythm and Pitch: An Integrated Approach to Sightsinging, published by Prentice-Hall. Monica Dale

Monica Dale, founder of MusiKinesis, is unique as a Eurhythmics teacher with a professional career in both dance and music. She received her M.M. in Piano Performance and the Jaques-Dalcroze License and Certificate from Ithaca College, and her B.A. from Connecticut College.

Her dance background includes study at the Joffrey School of Ballet, the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance, Jacob's Pillow, and the American Dance Festival. Monica danced as a soloist with the Alexandria Ballet, and from 1992-2000 she served as Dance Director of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, VA, where she taught classes in modern dance and Eurhythmics, performed, and directed a resident modern dance company, choreographing over 75 dance works.

Monica has taught Eurhythmics at all levels in both public and private schools, including Columbia Grammar School in New York City, Larchmont/Mamaroneck Public Schools in NY where she was the district nominee for the Sallie Mae Outstanding Teacher Award, and the Sheridan School in Washington D.C. She has been a guest Eurhythmics teacher for schools including Catholic University of America, Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, University of North Carolina-Greensboro, University of Southern Mississippi, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and others, and has taught workshops for state, regional, and national ACDA, AOSA, MENC and MMEA conferences.

Her articles have been published in periodicals including Music Educators Journal, Dance Magazine, and Design for Arts in Education, for which she received Heldref Publications' Young Writers Award. As founder of MusiKinesis, Monica has written and published a three-book series titled Eurhythmics for Young Children, a songbook, Songs Without Yawns, and a republication of Jaques-Dalcroze’s Trente Lecons Melodiques.

Currently, Monica teaches MusiKinesis at the Levine School of Music in Washington, D.C., dances with the professional company of Kinetics Dance Theatre in Ellicott City, Maryland, and maintains a private piano studio.
